HARVEST PRESS RELEASE 2022

The year is considered to have a normal tardiveness, with the windows of ideal ripening of each variety clearly visible. However, compared to last year's harvest, it is clearly judged as late by 8-12 days, depending on the local relief and the age of the parcel.

The normal winter, with constant low temperatures and mild intensity, high rainfall until mid-February determined the normal growth of the buds and the gradual vegetative growth up to 10 cm long. In the same direction, normal growth of the inflorescences without acceleration phenomena towards flowering, assisted this time by the few-day South winds of mild intensity, that usually last several days in island Greece during mid to late spring. The mild summer, in the absence of maximum daily temperatures above 35 °C (average daily temperature ranged from 30-31.5 °C), sealed the normal entry of each variety into the ripening phase.

In Kos, August month  remained in the same weather pattern, with mild temperatures and no rainfall. The only worth mentioning is the fact of limited sunshine for the 5 days that followed August 21. The impact of this is considered beneficial for the varieties  Assyrtiko, Athiri, Grenache, Syrah because it brought about a slow and gradual path towards the ideal maturity of these varieties.

In Rhodes, after August 21, there was a 5-day period of very high atmospheric humidity (over 90%), with high intensity and many millimeters of rainfall for 48 hours. The happy event that helped to avoid a complete deterioration in the quality of the grapes was the North winds, intensity 5 Beaufort, which were blowing for several days after the rainfall.

Depending on the age of the vineyard, there was an increase of 25-40% in production compared to last year's very low data. More specifically, having implemented winter pruning of normal rigor, the acreage yields ranged from 0.8-1.5 tn / acre, depending on the physiology of the bunch of each variety and the liveliness of each vineyard. The loads were considered normal and in no case was there any question of green harvesting to favor the ripening process.

Very good quality of raw material attributed to the excellent load and leaf balance of the parcels, as well as to the mild temperatures during the semester of May, June, July.

The year was not marked by some extreme climatic conditions as happened in 2021. The various levels of quality depended to a large extent on the systematic treatment of Eudemida. So for yet for another year, the winegrower starred. The year required a continuous and persistent presence on the vine, either for proper plant protection or for the observance of the appropriate cultivation techniques.

We believe that all varieties had at their disposal the climatic data to highlight their typical organoleptic characteristics.
Wines with very good harmony between alcoholic strength and acidity are expected, as well as high-intensity aromatic profiles.

In addition, the red wines show that they will not carry the usual phenolic condensation and the "warm" character of the Mediterranean basin. On the contrary, they will be characterized by finesse, elegance and will demonstrate durability.
